We fought food insecurity on Saturday, December 9, 2023

For the third year in a row, St. John LaLande parishioners, community volunteers, school families, and others worked side by side to fight food insecurity.  Living out the call to be HIS Hands & Feet, we packed 28,000 meals.

We give a huge thanks to all our volunteers including our Knights of Columbus and others who helped distribute meals to:

  1. Local pantries including:  St. Vincent DePaul, Catholic Charities, Redemptorist, St. Francis Xavier, and Community Services League.
  2. Three military base pantries including Fort Riley, Fort Leonard Wood, and Fort Leavenworth).
  3. The most food insecure rural pantries across Missouri.
  4. Mother's Refuge, a maternity home for young mothers.
  5. Schools in Blue Springs and Independence.

Stronghold Community Food Pantry - Message of thanks

All about perspective - Nicaragua and St. John LaLande

We are so thankful to Megan and Amy with Rainbow Network for joining Kim, Olivia, and Kate at each of their three Nicaragua pilgrimage presentations this past weekend. Presentations were held after each Mass.  Coffee from Nicaragua was served; and Kim, Olivia, and Kate prepared "gallo pinto," a typical Nicaraguan dish.
